Universal Careers was founded in early 2001 in Europe as an answer to market demand for high quality recruitment and related services for European Companies with recruitment needs in Africa and the Middle East.

First entity in Africa was opened in 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria and in 2016, we opened an entity in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The two founders have combined 50 odd years of c-level business experience spanning a wide range of sectors and geographical areas.

We aim to deliver the best solutions to the meet the needs of our clients, which mainly are blue chip international/multinational companies, who have a strong focus on Africa and the Middle East.

At Universal Careers each new mandate is treated uniquely and is based on the clients needs and current recruitment process. We start to understand our clients values, their individual needs, organisational structure as well as the specific recruitment need.

This will enable us to determine the right search strategy.

We evaluate the desired candidate behaviour via a behavioural assessment tool from the US based Predictive Index. This assessment is used throughout the pre-screening to assist in finding the right candidate for the mandate.

The Predictive Index combined with the Learning Indicator increase the hiring success by up to 80%.

Each candidate is interviewed first via phone. The reason is that via phone emphasis is based on the spoken word eliminating body language, physical appearance. If the candidate show the right attitude and interest during this interview we follow-up with the Predictive Index and Learning Indicator assessments prior to a face-to-face meeting.

After the interviews and the assessments individual feedback reports are written and will be the basis for the Candidate presentations.

We present 5 candidates initially.

When the client has narrowed the selection to the preferred candidate Universal Careers can assist with the contract negotiations as an intermediate.

Universal Careers work via different business models depending on the need of the client and the nature of the mandate.

  • Retained search

Fixed fee or percentage of the first year remuneration with a fixed minimum fee. The retained model is the basic 30 – 30 – 40, 30 per cent paid on acceptance of the mandate, 30 per cent when interviews start and 40 per cent when the candidate resumes the role.

  • Contingency

Fixed fee or percentage of the first year remuneration with a fixed minimum fee.

  • Exclusivity

We are firm believers that exclusivity is the only way a company can ensure consistent company branding. If you are using several agencies for a search assignment you will send different signals into the market. Each recruiter will do their best in selling the client as a preferred employer, however they will do it with their own unique style, which may not be consistent with the values the client want to be known for. If the client spend time finding the best agency match and finding the agency who have values that closest match to the client and giving the mandate exclusive to the agency there is a higher probability that the image the clients want to be known for also will be the message the agency is selling them by.

Universal Careers do not demand exclusivity however we urge the client to consider the benefits of exclusivity in our relationship.

Morten
Foght

Morten Foght Morten started his executive search consultant career in January 2010. Where he was commissioned to set-up a recruitment agency in Nigeria focusing on the increasing African Oil and Gas market. With this agency he ran several campaigns as well as executive search assignments for some of the biggest Oil and Gas companies in various African countries.

Mid 2011 the company had established a strong foothold in the African Oil and Gas search market and Morten decided to create his own agency to service the growing need for high quality professionals to the expanding African economy.

Since 2011 Morten has completed individual executive search assignments in many different countries; on the African continent – Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda just to mention some, in the middle east – Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates as well as European capital cities London and Copenhagen. This has given him a solid experience in attracting top talent to his clients, who mainly consist of large blue chip international organisations.

He has also run major recruitment campaigns, recruiting from CEO to the blue colour factory workers for international companies establishing in Africa for the first time.

Morten has established a name for himself in the industry based on high quality service, on time delivery and an exceptional eye for talent.

Prior to the executive search profession Morten was holding various positions within finance, last years as an international CFO.

Morten is certified in the Predictive index as well as the Professional Learning indicator personal assessment tools.

Morten holds a M. Sc. Degree in Finance and External Accounting and have a diploma in Executive management from Henley Management College.

He is fluent in Danish and English and conversant in the Scandinavian languages.
